Creator God, as the days lengthen and our world contracts, we give you thanks for the animals all around us.
We are grateful for cats who purr obliviously on our laps, for dogs eager to go for walks, for birds chirping outside our windows and squirrels scampering across the grass — each of them a reminder that much of life continues uninterrupted, regardless of our anxiety and worry.
Recognizing that there is much we cannot control – not now, not ever – we delight in the company of animals, some of whom rely on us for their every need, others who trust only in the provisions of your creation.
As we struggle with the uncertainty of this season, wondering when it will end, how it will end, what will happen after it ends, we rejoice in the creatures great and small who bring us comfort, offer us needed company and teach us to delight in life’s simple pleasures. Amen.
