Earthquake Ministry Update | ||||
Early last Monday morning, the first of two devastating earthquakes shook southern Turkiye (formerly called Turkey) and northern Syria. Within hours, VOM began hearing from Christians and church leaders in the region. Fewer than 1% of the people in Turkiye are Christians, and 90% of Syrians are Muslims. Following the earthquakes, many of the region’s Christians immediately looked for opportunities to serve their hurting, grieving countrymen during this time of devastation and loss. In one Turkish city, a pastor and his wife were killed in the quake, while their young son survived. Church members took comfort in recalling the pastor’s final sermon, preached the day before he died, which focused on the promise for God’s people of resurrection from the dead. Today we invite you to pray for that young boy who lost his parents, for all those who suffered loss of loved ones and homes, for the nations of Turkiye and Syria, and for Christians ministering in the areas hit hardest by the earthquakes.
