In the preface, WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca explains that we are coming together at this assembly to seek an oasis of peace, where we can refresh, renew, and perhaps reform our spirits. “Through prayer, song, chants, and symbolic liturgical actions, augmented by the assembly’s group Bible study and discussions, the spiritual life of the assembly is meant to set the tone of the whole meeting and to immerse participants in the assembly theme, which underscores the transforming reality of redemptive love and the dynamics and promise of Christian discipleship for fostering unity and reconciliation today,” writes Sauca. “Inspired by Christ’s love, enabled by the Spirit, we open ourselves to personal and ecclesial transformation, alert for the redemptive possibilities in each moment and striving together for God’s promised future.” The theme “Oasis of Peace” reflects how the assembly will seek to absorb and reflect mixed feelings, explains Sauca. “The word oasis is and its associated meanings are widely known,” Sauca writes. “As a symbol, the oasis is multivalent, offering several dimensions that are communicated well in various contexts.” “Oasis of Peace” is available in four languages |
