The PC(USA) Store - Hymnal Resources for All the Ways Your Community Gathers

“Where two or three are gathered in my name,
I am there among them.”

—Matthew 18:20

The Body of Christ has creatively gathered since meeting in the Upper Room to worship God and sing praise. Over the past few years, we’ve seen the ways we gather together change. Churches using both physical and online spaces have found ways to reach new members while still taking care of their current members. In all the ways we come together, music is the stream that moves and connects us.

Equipping members, new and old, with the connecting music they need for weekly worship is a challenge and the Glory to God hymnal has resources for you. Learn more about some of these resources below or browse all hymnal products.

Pew Editions
$20.00

Think outside the pew when considering how to get music in the hands of your congregation. We’ve heard from many churches who are providing pew editions of the hymnal to members who continue to participate virtually in worship from their homes.
Additional options to provide to members include the app version, available through various app platforms, as well as the ebook edition, available on several popular platforms including Kindle, Apple iBooks, B&N Nook, and more.
Enlarged Print, Text Edition (Words Only)
$30.00

With a larger font size, this option helps include those who may have difficulty reading the standard size of the pew edition. Additionally, this is a great resource for those using the hymnal for devotion or study.

Glory to God—Hymns and Songs for Children and Families
$20.00

Perfect for children, this resource features 19 songs and 4 prayers from the Glory to God hymnal that form a soundtrack for children to know themselves as God's children no matter where they are. It is available in a CD-format from PC(USA) Store or as a download on iTunes.

Projection Editions
Words Only Edition: $249.00
Words and Music Edition: $499.00

Did you know that in addition to being used during in-person worship, slides from the projection edition may be shown on screen during virtual worship, provided that all projection permissions are in place as indicated in the “Electronic Editions Permissions Guidelines” posted on the Hymnal Rights and Permissions page?

Please note that slides should be shared for viewing only. Slides should never be posted or archived in any way that enables downloading, copying, pasting, or any other use that infringes on the rights of the copyright holder. Additionally, projecting from the Web Edition, available through PC(USA) Store, during in‐person or online worship is not allowed. However, this is still an excellent resource to help with all of your worship planning needs. Browse all web edition options, including a free 30-day trial.

Thirteenth Sunday of Pentecost

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

COMMENTARY

As I write this reflection, news of Frederick Buechner’s death at age 96 has filled my social media feeds. The books of Beuchner, a Presbyterian pastor and acclaimed writer, sit on the shelf of every preacher I know. One of my favorite tributes I’ve read is a 1997 republished Christianity Today article about Buechner’s life and work by Phillip Yancey. Yancey paints a picture of a pastor for whom writing is his ministry — specifically writing about the ordinary, unexpected moments of grace where Buechner believed God would most likely be found. Moments like parking on the side of the road in a time of personal crisis only to observe a passing car with a license plate that spells, “T-R-U-S-T.” Haunted by his father’s death by suicide when he was ten, Buechner’s central message included a determined choice of life. In his book Now and Then, Buechner wrote:

“If I were called upon to state in a few words the essence of everything I was trying to say both as a novelist and as a preacher, it would be something like this: Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace.”

The Bible also urges us to choose life. Take, for instance, Deuteronomy 30:15-20 — the conclusion of Moses’ farewell discourse to the people of Israel and his last chance to influence them before they cross the Jordan into the Promised Land. On the brink of death, Moses implores his people to “choose life.” Moses’ speech takes the form of an imperative, a command that insists on the possibility of renewal for Israel. In the past, they had strayed from God and succumbed to the temptation of idols. Now, Moses declares, they have another chance. He lays out their options: “life and death, blessings and curses.”

Choosing love in a dumpster fire
"Despite everything, I still believe in the basic call for us to love, even during our 21st-century dumpster fire. I have no illusions that love will extinguish the fires around us. But love – real love that speaks truth, works collectively for change, sacrifices while simultaneously honoring our own integrity – that’s life-changing; it offers clarity and stability." — Chris Dela Cruz

Spiritual Care for Young People in a Climate Crisis

The starting point for In Deep Waters: Spiritual Care for Young People in a Climate Crisis is not news: the world as we know it is shifting. Several millennia of climate stability have come to an abrupt end. But, observes Talitha Amadea Aho, the young people of today do not remember stability. They see the world through crisis-colored glasses. Climate change is creating a spiritual emergency that is hitting their generation harder than any other.

Today’s climate crisis calls people of faith to a communal spiritual practice of care, especially for those who are more vulnerable because of their youth–the children, youth, and young adults of Generation Z. We must learn how to offer spiritual care that is informed by the spiritual-ecological crisis of their generation. The Rev. Aho guides us with her pastoral and chaplain experience to keep young people at the center of our communities and listen to the troubles they have to share. Whether you are a Gen Z peer or a caring adult of any other generation, this webinar will show you how to offer ecologically informed spiritual care.

WCC NEWS: “Orthodox reflections on the way to Karlsruhe” published to deepen understanding of assembly theme

Honoring a tradition in place since 1983, an Inter-Orthodox Pre-Assembly Consultation took place during which delegates from both Eastern and Oriental Orthodox churches met to reflect on the theme and sub-themes of the World Council of Churches (WCC) assembly.

23 August 2022

At the invitation of the WCC and with the generosity and blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Dr Vasilios of Constantia and Ammochostos, the consultation took place this time in Paralimni, Cyprus, from 9-16 May.

There were 50 participants, including delegates from 20 Eastern and Oriental Orthodox churches: hierarchs, priests, deacons, professors, lay men and women, and youth, as well as ecumenical observers and consultants.

In addition to the official Report of the Consultation, the resource book also offers reflections on the theme of the assembly by WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, the late Prof. Dr Gennadios of Sassima, and others.

In a preface, the editors of the reflections, Sauca and Prof. Dr Vasile-Octavian Mihoc, WCC program executive for Ecumenical Relations and Faith and Order, express their gratitude o all presenters, moderators, and participants at the Inter-Orthodox Pre-Assembly Consultation, “who showed great commitment to all sessions, engagement in discussions, and shaped a joyful and blessed fellowship.”

The editors add: “It is hoped that these contributions will be of use in understanding the Orthodox perspective on the complex theme of Christ’s love for our times.”
