Connecting during social distancing: This week's resources for worship, study and navigating COVID-19

Presbyterian Outlook
COVID-19 news & resources
Friends,

This week, we have shared a lot of resources on our website. Thanks to Carolyn Winfrey Gillette for penning the hymn "We Pray for Afghanistan's People Today," set to the tune of "Away in a Manger." Congregations are granted free use of this hymn for online and in-person worship services.

Remember: Check our website or follow us on social media to get materials as soon as they are released. You'll find weekly "Looking into the lectionary" reflections, all of the Outlook's COVID-19 news and stories, and our new worship resources here.

Grace and peace,

God of mercy, as wildfires and wars rage, earthquakes shake the planet, tropical storms threaten, we are at a loss as to what to say or do. In these moments of anguish and fear and grief, we turn to you in prayer, Holy God, confident that you hear the cries of your people.
God of mercy, our need is great. The pandemic has left us tired, anxious and uncertain. We have stretched beyond our limits and numbed ourselves to our pain. We have accepted getting by as good enough.

We pray for Afghanistan’s people today:
for those who are fleeing— who know they can’t stay,
for those who face terror by day and by night,
for those who can’t leave and whose dreams can’t take flight.
The spiritual formation of children is still a calling for churches. It just may look different.

A sonnet of thanksgiving for essential workers, by Andrew Taylor-Troutman.
