Liturgical Resources for Sunday, July 4

The Fourth of July
The Fourth of July falls on a Sunday this year, giving clergy an opportunity to speak on colonization, the state of our country, and striving to live up to ideals.

PPFers have put together some resources for those crafting worship for this Sunday:
  • Hymn suggestions
  • A call to worship
  • A prayer of confession
  • Sermon starters
  • Prayers of the people

Visit this page to read it all and feel free to use and share it with attribution.

Barstow-Driver Event September 1 Will Honor Cheryl and Douglas Hunt
Time to celebrate! The Presbyterian Peace Fellowship Barstow-Driver annual award event will be held virtually on September 1 at 8:00pm Eastern/5:00pm Pacific.

This year, the award for “excellence in nonviolent direct action in retirement” honors two dedicated peacemaking activists, Doug and Cheryl Hunt (pictured), members of First Presbyterian Church in Stockton, CA. They are retired teachers who have been working as accompaniment volunteers, advocates for gun violence prevention and going fossil free, and building relationships promoting God’s Kingdom of love, peace and justice for decades.

Our event’s keynote speaker will be Kathryn Fleischer, Executive Director of Not My Generation, a young adult organization for gun violence prevention. The Barstow-Driver award also functions as an important fundraiser for the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship which will be sharing event proceeds with Not My Generation. Even if you can't attend, you can give in honor of our award recipients.

Social Justice and Somatics Coffee Hour July 9
Knowing better doesn’t always lead to doing better. This is because we are more than just our thinking brains. We, both individually and collectively, are a combination of biological, evolutionary, emotional and psychological aspects that have been shaped by social and historical norms.

Somatics is a holistic way of transformation that lets us live, choose, be and act differently. It lets us get better at loving and being loved so that we can generate safety and take bold purposeful action. In this virtual coffee hour next Friday, July 9 at 1:00pm Eastern, we will explore somatics theory of change and experience a practice that will support our actions becoming better aligned with our visions and values. Register here.

"The Gun Is The Number One Way White Supremacy Is Enforced"
PPF Gun Violence Prevention Coordinator Rev. Deanna Hollas spoke with The Presbyterian Outlook for a Q&A on gun violence in the time of COVID-19.

She explores how and why gun sales have been soaring and what can be done to end the epidemic of deaths by guns.
