We Presbyterians make corporate promises during the Sacrament of Baptism that we will provide spiritual care, nurture, and teaching for the infants baptized into our church families. We pledge to help lead them to faith in Jesus Christ! In the Matthew passage below Jesus seems to charge us with the diligent protection of their innocence as well. It is a serious responsibility that requires prayer and commitment!

1. Pray for parents and members of Presbyterian & Reformed churches to welcome children as a “heritage from the Lord,” diligently protect their innocence, and value each as a person.

2. Pray God will guide those passionate about protecting life into quiet wisdom and compassion as they equip and engage members of their congregation for life-affirming ministry.

Matthew 18:5-6 (ESV)

“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
